11/01/09 - Scientific Death of Jesus:

 

THE (SCIENTIFIC) DEATH OF JESUS

At the age of 33, Jesus was condemned to the death penalty.

At the time crucifixion was the "worst" death. Only the worst criminals condemned to be crucified. Yet it was even more dreadful for Jesus, unlike other criminals condemned to death by crucifixion Jesus was to be nailed to the cross by His hands and feet.

Each nail was 6 to 8 inches long.

 

The nails were driven into His wrist .  Not into His palms as is commonly portrayed. There's a tendon in the wrist that extends to the shoulder.  The Roman guards knew that when the nails were being hammered into the wrist that tendon would tear and break, forcing Jesus to use His back muscles to support himself so that He could breath.. 

Both of His feet were nailed together.  Thus He was forced to support Himself on the single nail that impaled His feet to the cross.  Jesus could not support himself with His legs because of the pain so He was forced to alternate between arching His back then using his legs just to continue to breath.  Imagine the struggle, the pain, the suffering, the courage. 

Jesus endured this reality for over 3 hours.

 

Yes, over 3 hours! Can you imagine this kind of suffering?  A few minutes before He died, Jesus stopped bleeding. 

 

He was simply pouring water from his wounds.

From common images we see wounds to His hands and feet and even the spear wound to His side.  But do we realize His wounds were actually made in his body.  A hammer driving large nails through the wrist, the feet overlapped and an even large nail hammered through the arches, then a Roman guard piercing His side with a spear.   But before the nails and the spear Jesus was whipped and beaten.  The whipping was so severe that it tore the flesh from His body.  The beating so horrific that His face was torn and his beard ripped from His face.  The crown of thorns cut deeply into His scalp.  Most men would not have survived this torture. 

He had no more blood to bleed out, only water poured from His wounds.

The human adult body contains about 3.5 litres (just less than a gallon) of blood.

Jesus poured all 3.5 litres of his blood; He had three nails hammered into his members; a crown of  thorns on his head and, beyond that, a Roman soldier who stabbed a spear into his chest.

All these without mentioning the humiliation He passed after carrying his own cross for almost 2 kilometers, while the crowd spat in his face and threw stones (the cross was almost 30 kg of weight, only for its higher part, where his hands were nailed).

Jesus had to endure this experience, so that you can have free access to God.

So that your sins could be "washed" away. All of them, with no exception! Don't ignore this situation. JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOU! For you, who now read this e-mail. Do not believe that He only died for others (those who go to church or for pastors, bishops, etc).

He died for you! It is easy to pass jokes or foolish photos  by e-mail, but when it comes to God, sometimes you feel ashamed to forward to others because you are worried of what they may think about you.

 

  Accept the reality, the truth that JESUS IS THE ONLY SALVATION FOR THE WORLD.

God has plans for you, show all your friends what He experienced to save you. Now think about this! May God bless your life!

10/04/09-  Video clip: Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Tommy talks about Jesus - As uncomfortable as this movie was to watch (I had no interest in seeing a movie about a transsexual rock star wannabe, but the music and the sheer amount of crap that happened to this character, made the movie interesting enough to keep my interest.  Here's a good redeeming point of the movie in which a Christian fan of Hedwig's, named Tommy (who eventually steals his music and reaps the profits and fame), and sexual interest of Hedwig's, starts talking about Jesus:

08/09/09- "Equilibrium" movie clip - Equilibrium is a movie which appears to rip-off or maybe do homage to The Matrix movie in several ways, but yet stands on its own as an original movie.  The movie is set in a society which has ended war and murder by putting everyone on a drug that sounds like Prozac to prevent anyone from feeling feelings...which is believed to lead to said crimes.

In this clip, Christian Bales' character is interviewing his ex-wife,  a sense violator (someone who chose to quit taking the drug to feel again), as to her reasoning behind sense violation.  The clip seemed fitting for the Ephesians reading.

The word of God is clear that in life we will feel many things and many of them will not be pleasant.  But feeling things is what makes life worth living for.  I guess the lesson of the movie is to watch out not to turn yourself into a robot by shutting down emotionally...a rollercoaster ride is boring if there are no highs and lows.

08/02/09: "They Live" - While I was sick last week I got to watch a great movie from the 80's starring Rowdy Roddy Piper (former wrestler).  The movie was about how this man stumbles upon the truth that there are forces out there controlling humanity, and it seems sinister.  I put the clip here to act as a wake up call to ourselves as to how we are living and how we are treating humanity in general.  Plus, this movie KICKS ASS!  Also, it fits in with today's readings, what the street preacher is saying.

In this clip from the opening of the movie Roddy's character stumbles upon a street preacher.  He listens to what he says until the police arrive.

Reading I - A reading from the book of Job (Job 38:1, 8-11):

1 The LORD addressed Job out of the storm and said:

Who shut within doors the sea, when it burst forth from the womb;

When I made the clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling bands?

When I set limits for it and fastened the bar of its door,

And said: Thus far shall you come but no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stilled!

Reading I - A reading from the book of Exodus (Exodus 24:3-8):

When Moses came to the people and related all the words and ordinances of the LORD, they all answered with one voice, "We will do everything that the LORD has told us."

1 Moses then wrote down all the words of the LORD and, rising early the next day, he erected at the foot of the mountain an altar and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.

Then, having sent certain young men of the Israelites to offer holocausts and sacrifice young bulls as peace offerings to the LORD,
